To choose a child’s costume size, take the measurements requested by that particular costume’s chart and compare them in the same units. An age label is a starting point, not enough information to judge fit. A flexible tape measure and the worksheet below help you check your choice before ordering, without guessing a size.
To choose a costume format, check how its parts are joined, where it opens and which pieces you will handle separately. Connect those details to where you will get dressed, whether help will be available and what else you want to wear with it. “Jumpsuit”, “dress” or “cape” is a starting point; the construction of the particular design is what matters.
If your measurements fall in different rows of a costume’s size chart, do not automatically choose the larger or smaller size. First check that you are comparing the right model, matching units and the same type of measurement. Then record the discrepancy and identify the information still needed for that particular design.
